Purpose of Job:Create a positive learning environment where child athletes learn sportsmanship, fundamental skills, teamwork and responsibility. Progam cannot run without coaching volunteers!
Job Description: CYLA’s youth lacrosse programs emphasize skill development, fair play, teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, responsibility, and fun. Each participant should be provided the opportunity to play in every game and play different positions on the field.
Qualifications:
Have a desire to work with children
Demonstrate enthusiasm, patience, organization, maturity, dependability and be responsible.
Be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent graduate certificate.
Be available at the times when games, practices and meetings are held.
Regular attendance at scheduled practices and games
Regular attendance at parent/coaches meetings upon notification
Communicate program information to parents and players
Responsibilities:
Teach fundamental skills to the child athletes while emphasizing skill development, fair play, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun.
Be on time or early to all practices and games or find a replacement/communicate with other coaching staff
Provide a safe environment for practice and games by checking the conditions of the field and equipment (if necessary) each practice/game. Report any issues to club representatives.
Use US Lacrosse coaching app or website to ensure the teaching of skills is following developmentally appropriate stages.
Review and enforce all US Lacrosse Youth and any additional league rules and policies.
Be responsible for children until they are turned over to a parent or guardian before leaving the field.
Provide first aid when injuries occur. Notify CYLA representatives when first aid kit needs replenished. Complete an Incident Report Form on the CYLA website no later than the day after injury occurs that requires more than simple first aid. Call 911 for any severe injury.
Report any problems with fields, equipment, player behavior, parent behavior, or officials to CYLA representatives.
Abide by all officials’ decisions.
Be accessible by phone, text or email. Communicate your preferred method of communication with CYLA, other coaching staff and parents/team players.
Assist officials in deciding when to cancel a game during inclement weather. Assist CYLA representatives in deciding when to cancel practice during inclement weather. Any sign of lightning shall require immediate play stoppage. There should be 30 minutes between the last sound of thunder and the last flash of lightning before activity is resumed.
Review player registration information for any reported medical conditions of your players. Communicate with parents regarding medical conditions reported as needed.
CYLA will reinburse for all membership and training fees. Please email your receipt to CYLA Treasurer. It will be easiest to write ALL reimbursement checks at once rather than one-at-a-time.
